The Igbinedion Education Centre was founded by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion (The Esama of Benin Kingdom) and Lady Cherry Igbinedion

The foundation stone of the Igbinedion Education Centre was laid on 15th June 1990 by

The 15th of June 1990 witnessed a tropical rainstorm. His Majesty Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa CFR, The Oba of Benin defied the rainstorm to lay the foundation stone of what has become the foremost educational institution in Nigeria, West Africa, witnessed by members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, members of the judiciary, eminent scholars, clergymen and dignitaries from all walks of life.
Igbinedion Education Centre is an internationally accredited school, open to all children irrespective of nationality, ethnic roots or state of origin. It is Chief Igbinedion’s wish that students should avail themselves of the unique opportunities offered at the Igbinedion Education Centre.
